The map is NOT the territory. When you get your “trip-ticks” from AAA – the route may look simple & easy on paper, but when you take the trip, the “territory” may present some unforeseen difficulties. We may try to plan and map out things and they may look straightforward on paper, but when we attempt to “execute” the plan a lot unforeseen difficulties may arise. (Use as an analogy to a lot of things)

Famous archer, Howard Hill won all of the 267 archery contests he entered. He could hit a bullseye at 50 feet, then split first arrow with the second. Would it be possible for you to shoot better than him? YES, if he were blindfolded! How can you hit a target you can’t see? Even worse, how can you hit a target you don’t even have!? You need to have GOALS in your life!

Have you ever watched a stonecutter at work? He will hammer away at a rock for perhaps a 100 times without a crack showing in it. Then, on the 101st blow, it will split in two. It is not that blow alone which accomplished the result, but the 100 others that went before as well.

What comes first, the compass or the clock? Before one can truly “manage time” (the clock), it is important to know where you are going, what your priorities and goals are, in which direction you are headed (the compass). Where you are headed is more important than how fast you are going. Rather than always focusing on what’s urgent, learn to focus on what is really important.

Imagine being in a room with two TV sets. One is a large screen TV with surround sound. The other is a miniature 1″ screen TV. What would you tend to focus on and become absorbed in? Some people make their problems the size of the large screen TV and their personal goals the size of the miniature one. It is important to mentally minimize the problems and the “cant’s” and maximize the goals and the “cans”.

Is your life busy and full of activity? Are you blindly following someone else? You may be going nowhere! “Processionary” caterpillars follow one another. It’s possible to have a long line of them following each other in a circle around a flower pot that contains their food. They may continue to march around the pot for hours, days, only to finally expire from exhaustion. Being busy and active means nothing if your activity is not centered on the most important things or if you are blindly following someone else.

Goals should be SMART: S = Specific M = Measurable A = Assignable (who does what) R = Realistic T = Time-Related

If You: – Care more than others think is wise – Risk more than others think is wise – Dream more than others think is practical – Expect more than others think is possible Then you dramatically increase your chances of reaching your goals.

The Apollo-11 mission (man on the moon) was off-course 90% of the time but through technology was able to “course-correct” and achieve its goals. We need to make continuous “course-corrections” to reach our individually set goals (i.e. prioritized “to-do” lists).

You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again… So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. Once descends, ones sees no longer but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what ones saw higher up. When one can longer see, one can at least know.

At 10 minutes to seven on a dark, cool evening in Mexico City in 1968, John Stephen Akwari of Tanzania painfully hobbled into the Olympic Stadium – the last man to finish the marathon. The winner had already been crowned, and the victory ceremony was long finished. GET THE BIG PICTURE Have you ever watched an artist paint a picture? He or she works close to the canvas ?????? painting small sections at a time in the process of bringing the whole creation into being. But every once in awhile, the artist must step back from their work and look at the whole picture. Only by stepping away from what you are working on and involved with can you gain the proper perspective or point of view that is crucial to the end result.

You’ve got to think about “big things” while you’re doing small things, so that all the small things go in the right direction.

You will never reach a goal that you do not set.

You love what you find time to do.

You don’t “assault” Everest. You sneak up on it and then get the hell outta there!

You are successful the moment you start moving forward a worthwhile goal.

Write it down. Written goals have a way of transforming wishes into wants; cant’s into cans; dreams into plans; and plans into reality. Don’t just think it – ink it!

Why kill time when you can make it work for you.

Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way and who will be sharing the adventure with them.

Where your attention goes, you go.

When you look toward the sun you don’t see the shadows.

When you rest, you rust.

When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.
